A2 is the turning point. By the end of these 90 sessions, your German will feel real — not a series of textbook drills, but actual conversation. You will speak in the past tense, express opinions, navigate the practical situations of daily life in German, and read short authentic texts.
A2 builds directly on the A1 foundation. We deepen your grammar (perfect tense, modal verbs, prepositions), expand your vocabulary by another 1,000 words, and shift the centre of gravity from memorising rules to using them. The course closes with structured preparation for the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 — the second milestone in your German journey.

The Goethe-Zertifikat A2 certifies that you can communicate in routine situations involving simple, direct exchange on familiar topics. It is recognised by German visa authorities, used as proof of basic competence, and is the prerequisite for B1.
Our 9-session A2 exam preparation block focuses on the four sections, with section-specific mock tests, faculty-graded writing feedback, and oral exam rehearsals with cohort partners. Our first-attempt pass rate for A2 is 97%.

Do I need to complete A1 at Schiller to join A2?+
No — if you have completed A1 elsewhere or have equivalent knowledge, take our free 20-minute placement test and we will confirm A2 readiness.
How is A2 different from A1?+
A2 is a step up in pace, vocabulary, and grammar complexity. You will encounter the perfect tense, subordinate clauses, and have to express more nuanced ideas. Conversation becomes more natural.
How many new words will I learn at A2?+
Approximately 1,000 additional active-vocabulary words on top of your A1 base, bringing your total active vocabulary to around 1,500 – 1,800 words.
Is the Goethe A2 exam needed for jobs in Germany?+
Not by itself — most German companies require B1 or B2 minimum. A2 is a stepping stone. However, it is sometimes accepted for family-reunion visas and short-term scholarships.
Can I skip A2 and go directly to B1?+
We do not recommend skipping. A2 builds the grammatical and lexical foundation that B1 demands. Skipping creates serious gaps. Our placement test will confirm your true level.
What does the A2 Schiller textbook cover?+
Our A2 textbook covers all relevant grammar (perfect, modal verbs, subordinate clauses, prepositions, adjective endings), thematic vocabulary, and Goethe A2 exam practice. Included with the course.
Are classes in German or English at A2?+
Approximately 70% German, 30% English. We progressively reduce English explanations as your German grows. By A2 module 3, sessions are nearly fully in German.
What if I fail Goethe A2 — what then?+
Our 97% first-attempt pass rate means it rarely happens. If it does, we provide free re-preparation sessions to help you re-attempt successfully. The exam itself is re-bookable with the Goethe-Institut.
How fluent will I be after A2?+
You will hold real conversations on familiar topics, understand simple authentic German, write short messages and letters confidently. Not fluent yet (that comes at B2) but functional.
Is the Fast Track A2 too aggressive?+
Fast Track covers the same 90 sessions in 10 weeks instead of 20. It demands ~8 – 9 sessions per week. If your schedule allows that intensity, the results are excellent. If not, Regular is wiser.
Can I do A1 + A2 back-to-back?+
Yes — many scholars do exactly this. Some sign up for both upfront with an EMI plan covering both. Speak with our counsellor about combined enrolment discounts.
